Dickinson County Board OKs update of health code
IRON MOUNTAIN — An update to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department’s environmental health code will mainly affect contractors installing septic systems, according to information reviewed by the Dickinson County Board.
Wade Dishaw, the agency’s environmental health director, said public comment has been accepted for several months. The new Upper Peninsula Environmental Health Code replaces the Superior Environmental Health Code from 1978, he told the county board Wednesday.
It allows construction permit extensions of up to two years, as opposed to the previous one year, he said. Other variations are mostly technical, such as a slight easing of the required stone size for a drain field.
The county board endorsed the code as Dishaw, in response to questions, confirmed it can be amended as needed.

— Authorized Controller Brian Bousley to purchase a new dump trailer and accessories for the courthouse and grounds not to exceed $15,000.
— Agreed to provide airport ramp space to Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 439 on Sept. 23-25 for Ford Airport Days, which will include a fly-in of a B-25 World War II-era plane.
