Hord, Graham lead ND Class of 2022

FELCH TOWNSHIP — North Dickinson County High School has announced the top two seniors for the Class of 2022.

The school in Felch Township had its graduation ceremonies Friday evening.

The seniors chosen are:

— Ashton Hord, daughter of Amy and Chad Hord of Felch Township, earned valedictorian with a cumulative 3.94 grade-point average.

Academically, Hord earned awards in geometry, physics and 11th grade English. She also received the Michigan Tech Women of Engineering Award for math and science. She was a member of the National Honor Society as well.

NATHAN GRAHAM

Hord has earned numerous honors as an athlete. She was a four-year member of the girl’s basketball team and scored more than 1,000 points. She was named 1st-team all-conference for the Skyline Conference for three years and received the team defensive MVP award four years and the team Offensive MVP three years. She also received Associated Press all-state honorable mention for basketball and the Skyline Conference Player of the Year her senior year. She was a member of the varsity volleyball team for three years, and was selected all-conference defensive specialist. She was team captain in both volleyball and basketball. She was a four-year member of the track team and placed in three events in the Upper Peninsula Finals.

Hord was a member of the student council and served as class treasurer her freshman and sophomore years, secretary her junior year and president as a senior. She received academic distinction every semester and was on the honor roll each years. She was named Homecoming queen in her senior year and prom princess her junior year.

Outside of school, Hord has a job at Crystal View Golf Courses and volunteers with the school forest planting team, does highway cleanup and helps at underclassmen sports camps. She was selected to receive the Outstanding Citizenship Award.

Hord plans to do pre-professional health studies at Bay De Noc Community College before transferring to an accredited medical diagnostic sonography program.

— Nathan Graham, son of Christy and Alex Graham of Felch Township, is the Class of 2022 salutatorian with a cumulative 3.92 GPA.

Graham earned academic distinction for eight semesters of high school, including six consecutive semesters with all A’s. He was a member of the National Honor Society and was selected as a Student of the Week.

He participated in four years of football, basketball and track and field, where he reached the U.P. finals for pole vault and 400m relay.

Outside of school, Graham helped in highway cleanup, was an altar server, worked for King George Welding and Fabrication in Virginia for three months in summer 2021 and has worked at The Drug Store in Norway since September 2021.

Graham plans to study welding at Bay de Noc Community College, then transfer to Ferris State and earn a welding-engineering degree.
