Local data: 27 new virus positives in Dickinson, 15 in Iron

Local health officials Friday reported 27 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County and 15 in Iron County in the past eight days.

Dickinson County also had 12 probable virus cases and Iron County three probables since May 19, according to figures posted Friday on the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department’s Facebook page.

On a better note, 41 people were reclassified as recovered from the virus in Dickinson County, as well as four in Iron County.

The DIDHD on Friday had Dickinson County at 5,131 confirmed positives and 2,470 probable cases to date, with 7,319 recovered, 111 deaths and 171 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 2,371 confirmed cases to date and 346 probables, with 2,576 recovered, 87 deaths and 54 active cases.

Coronavirus activity for the week appeared to slow both in the Upper Peninsula and statewide.

On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday added 442 confirmed positives to the Upper Peninsula’s tally since May 18, compared with 517 the previous week: 184 in Marquette County; 44 in Houghton County; 32 in Delta County; 26 each in Menominee, Chippewa and Mackinac counties; 25 in Dickinson County; 19 in Alger County; 17 in Gogebic County; 14 in Baraga County; 11 in Iron County; seven in Ontonagon County; six in Schoolcraft County; four in Keweenaw County; and one in Luce County.

The state recorded two virus-related deaths in Marquette County, and one each in Houghton and Baraga counties.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 53,342 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 844 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 481 confirmed cases and 57 probable, and 13 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 670 confirmed cases and 797 probable, 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 914 confirmed, 109 probable and 35 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,089 confirmed, 674 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,096 confirmed cases and 718 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,683 confirmed cases and 869 probable, 28 deaths and three probable; Baraga County, 1,755 confirmed cases, 325 probable and 52 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,360 confirmed cases and 340 probable, 71 deaths and 16 probable; Gogebic County, 2,814 confirmed cases and 537 probable, 40 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,631 confirmed cases and 5,275 probable, and 87 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 4,039 confirmed cases, 1,723 probable and 60 deaths, 10 probable; Dickinson County, 5,113 confirmed cases and 2,460 probable, 88 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 6,968 confirmed cases, 1,127 probable, 82 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 8,047 confirmed cases and 2,155 probable, 133 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 12,682 confirmed cases, 3,196 probable and 122 deaths, 10 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 25,968 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since May 18 — or an average of 3,710 cases per day for the week’s span, compared with 4,181 a day for the previous week — for a total of 2,527,831 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for the week added 139 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 36,357.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Friday had Marinette County at 11,937 COVID-19 positives, up 77 since May 20, and 128 deaths, up one; Vilas County, 5,332 positives, up 33, and 89 deaths; Forest County, 2,729 positives, up 25, and 52 deaths; Iron County, 1,495 positives, up five, and 47 deaths; and Florence County, 1,104 positives, up nine, and 17 deaths.
