Braumart to host art exhibition Thursday

IM event coincides with Third Thursdays

IRON MOUNTAIN – The historic Braumart Theater in Iron Mountain will present a new art exhibition — the works of Laura M. Bailey, Laura Lobner, Rob Anttila and Angela Elliott-Johnson — from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

In collaboration with the Downtown Development Authority’s Third Thursdays, the Braumart is offering an intimate showcase of the works of these local artists with a reception.

This is the first exhibition for “Everything Arts Upper Peninsula” supported by the Iron Mountain Public Arts Advisory Committee.

Bailey’s cat Ash has been her current inspiration. “I create to share my view of the world, shining a light on the ordinary by unveiling the extraordinary parts of everyday life,” she said.

Anttila’s music will be shared. “Being an artist means, to me, being kind,” he said. “You give up a part of yourself to share positivity with others. I can’t think of a kinder life to live.”

Lobner’s art ranges from illustration, painting, woodburning, stained glass, as well as many other forms of art and craft.

Elliott-Johnson’s creations are botanicals and mixed media. Her latest work is combining the beauty of nature with vintage and reclaimed items, inspired by Andrew Wyeth.

Sarah Rice, the chair for the Iron Mountain Public Arts Advisory Committee, invites everyone to stop by the Braumart.

“Alongside our belief that art helps improve one’s well-being, we also believe that art is for everyone,” she said.

The committee’s goal is to continue to raise awareness in the community on the importance of the arts and culture for all ages. The group continues to work closely with Mindy Meyers from the Downtown Development Authority as well as the Braumart and Borderland Arts.

The reception is free and open to the public.

With the support of the community, the Braumart can continue to provide patrons with arts and culture showcased in a beautiful historic building, Rice said.

“We encourage you to support the Braumart by making a donation to its restoration cause, purchasing tickets to their events or sponsoring an event,” she said. “Together we can make a difference and maintain this enriched cultural atmosphere.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
