KINGSFORD — Set up is underway for this weekend’s seventh-annual Flivverfest at Lodal Park on West Breitung Avenue in Kingsford.

The event was started by Rick Holland and Kingsford varsity football coach Mark Novara as a fundraiser for Kingsford sports.

Since its inception, the event has raised more than $50,000 for Kingsford athletics. In the past, some of the funds were used to purchase concussion helmets and football pads, but money has gone to other sports as well.

Members of the Kingsford varsity football team do most of the set up with help from several adult volunteers, Holland said.

“It’s great for the kids to do volunteer work,” he said.

The event kicks off at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Music starts at 3 p.m., with local acoustic artist Melanie Rose. She is followed at 5 p.m. by Fatwood of the Iron River-area performing a variety of music starting at 5 p.m. Upper Peninsula-based country-rock band Outlaw’d takes the stage at 9 p.m. and will play until the park closes at midnight.

On Saturday, the gates open at 1:30 p.m., with acoustic variety music by Jim Counter starting at 2 p.m. Rock band Rebel Janes of northern Wisconsin plays from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., followed by local country and variety rock band Next Myle from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Bounce houses for children will be open from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday. A water slide will be available, too.

The cornhole tournament returns. A silent auction also is planned, with many donated items available to bid on.

Class reunions continue to be a popular part of the Flivverfest. Five classes plan to meet at the event, including all area classes of 1970 celebrating their 70th birthday this year.

Holland said MJ Electric of Iron Mountain has donated all the power for the event. Tents, fireworks and some lighting were donated by Todd Dooley of Spread Eagle Fireworks, who will also provide the fireworks show at dusk Saturday. All sound, stages and lighting are provided by Upper Audio of the local area.

Food and refreshments will be sold on the grounds. No carry-ins are allowed.

Admission for both days is $10 or $25 per family.

Starting at $3.50/week.
