Local data: 48 more virus cases, new death in Dickinson

Local data Friday showed area COVID-19 activity continuing to creep up in Dickinson County, which in the past eight days recorded 48 new confirmed coronavirus positives along with a new death blamed on the virus.

Iron County, however, had only 19 new confirmed cases since July 14, down from the previous week, according to figures posted Friday on the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department’s Facebook page.

Dickinson County also had 30 probable coronavirus cases and Iron County 16 probables in the eight-day period. The DIDHD reclassifed 47 people in Dickinson County and 33 in Iron County as recovered from the virus.

The DIDHD on Friday had Dickinson County at 5,363 confirmed positives and 2,600 probable cases to date, with 7,652 recovered, 115 deaths and 196 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 2,549 confirmed cases to date and 376 probables, with 2,719 recovered, 87 deaths and 119 active cases.

On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday added 441 confirmed COVID-19 positives since July 12 to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 115 in Marquette County; 80 in Houghton County; 43 in Gogebic County; 41 in Dickinson County; 36 in Delta County; 25 in Menominee County; 19 in Iron County; 16 in Baraga and Schoolcraft counties; 13 in Chippewa County; 12 in Alger County; eight in Keweenaw, Ontonagon and Mackinac counties; and one in Luce County.

The state listed a single new virus-related death in Dickinson, Houghton, Marquette and Chippewa counties.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 55,966 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 872 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 520 confirmed cases and 58 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 692 confirmed cases and 836 probable, 14 confirmed deaths and two probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 975 confirmed, 113 probable and 37 deaths, three probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,135 confirmed cases and 765 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Alger County, 1,136 confirmed, 734 probable and eight deaths, six probable; Mackinac County, 1,765 confirmed cases and 911 probable, 28 deaths and three probable; Baraga County, 1,859 confirmed cases, 355 probable and 53 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,533 confirmed cases and 355 probable, 71 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,076 confirmed cases and 565 probable, 41 deaths and 30 probable; Chippewa County, 3,757 confirmed cases and 5,440 probable, and 89 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 4,204 confirmed cases, 1,815 probable and 61 deaths, 12 probable; Dickinson County, 5,322 confirmed cases and 2,586 probable, 92 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 7,347 confirmed cases, 1,165 probable, 88 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 8,337 confirmed cases and 2,413 probable, 136 deaths and 26 probable; and Marquette County, 13,308 confirmed cases, 3,447 probable and 129 deaths, 11 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday had 16,445 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since July 12, or an average of about 2,349 cases per day for the week, for a total of 2,652,659 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that time period added 149 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 37,291.

The state updates COVID-19 data once a week, on Tuesdays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Friday had Marinette County at 12,475 COVID-19 positives so far, up 113 since July 14, and 132 deaths; Vilas County, 5,738 positives, up 54, and 91 deaths; Forest County, 2,920 positives, up 27, and 52 deaths; Iron County, 1,584 positives, up 14, and 48 deaths; and Florence County, 1,154 positives, up nine, and 17 deaths.
