Motorcycle fatal in Marinette County

MARINETTE, Wis. — An Oconto, Wis., man was killed Saturday evening in a motorcycle crash on U.S. 41 in southern Marinette County.

Daniel Ertman, 53, was southbound on U.S. 41 in the town of Grover just north of the Oconto County line about 5:53 p.m., traveling at a high rate of speed and passing several vehicles, when he apparently lost control of the cycle and skidded down the highway. The motorcycle went into the ditch and Ertman ended up on the road shoulder, according to a news release from Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the crash site by the assistant Marinette County medical examiner, the news release stated.

No helmet, alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in the fatality, which remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and medical examiner, according to the news release. This was Marinette County’s third traffic fatality in 2022.

Also responding at the crash were the Grover-Porterfield Fire Department and Aurora Bay Area Paramedics.
