Name released in fatal crash

MARINETTE, Wis. — Authorities have released the name of a Wallace man who was killed late Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in the town of Wagner in eastern Marinette County.

Archie Roberts, 85, was southbound on Old Rail Road about 10:42 a.m. Wednesday when his vehicle apparently failed to yield right-of-way at a stop sign at County Highway X and was struck by a pickup truck traveling east on the highway, Marinette County Chief Deputy James Hansen stated in a news release.

Roberts was not wearing a seat belt and pronounced dead at the crash site by the county medical examiner, according to the release.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Aurora Bay Area Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening; the passenger in that vehicle was not injured. Both were wearing seat belts, according to the news release.

The crash remains under investigation.
