KINGSFORD — The American Association of University Women of Iron Mountain/Kingsford invites the community to the 2022 Candidates Forum on Thursday at Kingsford High School Auditorium, 431 Hamilton Ave.

Doors are open to the public at 6:30 p.m. for the opportunity to speak with candidates prior to the forum beginning at 7 p.m.

Audience members will be invited to submit written questions for the candidates to answer. Katie Maxon will serve as moderator.

All candidates on the Nov. 8 ballot for state and federal offices have been invited to attend. Several candidates have indicated they are unable to participate, but were encouraged to send a representative on their behalf.

Candidates appearing for Michigan’s State Senate include 38th District Sen. Ed McBroom R-Waucedah Township, and Green Party candidate Wade Roberts.

Appearing for Michigan’s House of Representatives are 109th District candidates Jenn Hill, Democrat, and Melody Wagner, Republican; and 110th District Rep. Gregory Markkanen, R-Hancock.

U.S. House of Representatives candidates appearing for Michigan’s 1st District include Andrew Gale, Libertarian; Liz Hakola, Working Class Party, and Dr. Bob Lorinser, Democrat.

The forum, sponsored by the local AAUW branch for more than 50 years, provides an opportunity to meet the candidates, as well as participate in a question and answer session.

“Sponsoring an event such as the candidates forum is directly in line with the mission and values of AAUW,” said Barbara Rice, co-chairperson of Iron Mountain/Kingsford’s AAUW Public Policy. “We are proud to be able to offer this opportunity for the Dickinson County community to actively interact with the candidates running for various political offices.”

AAUW is a nationally recognized non-profit organization that strives to promote gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy. The Iron Mountain/Kingsford chapter supports the AAUW mission by sponsoring community-service opportunities, publicly-available educational programs to celebrate Women’s History Month, and by providing scholarships for local students — both traditional and non-traditional — to pursue postsecondary education of their choice.

More information about AAUW will be available at the forum. Qualified individuals may join the organization during the event. All members of the community are invited to attend the forum.
