A “Break the Silence” event took place Tuesday in Iron Mountain, with squad cars, fire engines, ambulances and citizens driving from the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office to First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford with sirens blaring and horns sounding. The annual event during Domestic Violence Awareness Month aims to shine a light on domestic violence and encourage people to speak up if they face such treatment or know of someone who is being abused. Caring House wrote on its website, “Domestic violence thrives in silence, but voices have power. Help break the silence.” Each year, the Caring House in Iron Mountain provides services to more than 500 individuals, handles 1,400 crisis calls and provides nearly 2,000 bed nights. The Caring House on Tuesday also saluted local law enforcement officers for their efforts to assist in domestic violence situations. (Marguerite Lanthier/Daily News photos)
