Breitung Schools adds new administrators, teachers, counselor, nurse

KINGSFORD — Breitung Township Schools has welcomed two new administrators, 10 new teachers, a new counselor and an additional full-time nurse for the 2022-2023 school year.

Jessica Garvaglia was hired as Kingsford Middle School principal. Garvaglia has 14 years of experience teaching and most recently taught social studies at Kingsford High School.

Matt LaLonde is the new Kingsford High School assistant principal. He has 12 years of teaching experience and most recently taught special education at KHS.

Jacob Barnby was hired as one of the new band instructors. He has six years of experience teaching and most recently taught in Atlanta, Michigan.

Marc Rose is also a new band instructor. This is his first teaching assignment. Rose completed his student teaching at West Middle School in Portage, Michigan.

Chris Cavalieri

Chris Cavalieri is the Woodland outdoor recreation teacher. Cavalieri has nine years of experience teaching, most recently at West Iron County Public Schools.

Mike Cross has returned as a high school social studies teacher. He has 26 years of experience and most recently taught at West Iron County Public Schools. Cross previously taught for Breitung Township Schools for 23 years.

Kari Koffman was hired as a 5th grade social studies teacher. She has 20 years of experience and most recently taught at Carney-Nadeau Public Schools.

Natalie Lindeman is a 1st grade teacher. She has three years of experience and most recently taught at Goodman-Pembine Area Schools.

Anna Martell was hired as a 6th grade language arts teacher. Martell has 15 years of experience and most recently taught at North Central Area Schools.

Ann Reed is a new kindergarten teacher. This is her first teaching assignment after completing her student teaching at Woodland Elementary School.

Kailey Sarafiny was hired as a special education teacher. She has one year of experience teaching at West Iron County Public Schools.

Zach Wedge was hired as a KHS guidance counselor. Wedge has 13 years of experience and most recently was a counselor at Florence County Schools.

Amanda Zambon was hired as a kindergarten teacher. She has 21 years of experience, most recently at West Iron County Public Schools.

Jessica Zawada was hired as a full-time school nurse. Zawada has eight years of experience in nursing and most recently worked for Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson.

“We have been fortunate to fill all of our open administrative, teaching, counseling, and nurse positions with quality, experienced staff members. We are excited to have these individuals join our Breitung Township Schools team,” Superintendent David Holmes said. “We’ve also hired several quality support staff members throughout the school year and will continue to look to fill the remaining open support staff positions.”
