Brush and garden waste pickup begins on Monday
KINGSFORD –In his report to the Kingsford City Council, Department of Public Works director Jeff DeMuri announced that the public works department will start picking up brush and garden waste on Monday, Oct, 17, and end on Oct. 21.
Loose leaf pickup in the city will start on Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Ford Addition and then move to Garden Village on Oct. 20. Breitung and the Heights areas will both start on Oct. 24. Leaves must be placed by the curb.
Bagged leaves will be picked up until Nov. 5.
DeMuri also reported the city’s well head protection plan was completed by the Michigan Rural Water Association, with help of Kingsford’s well head protection, team. This added 100 points on a scoring system for the city’s state submittal for the Heights water project with GEI Consultants.
The project would replace the 2 1/2 water lines with a six-inch line on Wilson Avenue, Harrison Street, Cleveland Avenue, Saratogo Streets and parts of Bell Court and Rexford Avenue. There would be sidewalk restoration, full curb replacement, full width pavement replacement and some hydrant replacement.
The new auditor, Scott Sternhagen of CLA (CliffordLarsonAllen) of Green Bay, Wis., was expected to begin the city’s auditing process.
CLA was approved last year with a three-year contract with option to cancel after the first year. CLA has a local office with Sternhagen serving as their local representative. The city’s former auditor, Scott Kenney of Crystal Falls, retired last year.
