Roof rack kills motorist
NEGAUNEE — Michigan State Police have released information regarding a fatal traffic accident that occurred on M-28 in Schoolcraft County Sunday afternoon.
Police said that 31-year-old Matthew Morgrette of Colorado was driving his Chevrolet pickup eastbound along M-28 when a Honda passenger car’s roof rack, which was carrying a kayak, became dislodged and struck the vehicle driven by Morgrette.
Police said that the roof rack pierced the windshield of the truck, causing a fatal injury to Morgrette, who was traveling in the pickup with his wife. She was uninjured.
The Honda car was driven by a 58-year-old Wisconsin man who was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
