Spooktacular choices: A haunting mix awaits for Halloween

IRON MOUNTAIN — Area communities have organized a frightful array of fun activities for Halloween. From classic haunted houses to pumpkin walks and traditional trick-or-treating, businesses, organizations, schools and churches are offering a variety ways to celebrate.
Multi-day events include:
— Children and adults can get their fill of scares at the Haunted Barn at the Dickinson County Fairgrounds in Norway. The sixth-annual haunted house will be open for older children and adults from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. The barn will offer kid-friendly hours, with no props, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. The tunnel of terror is in the top level of the exhibition building. This year, they will feature some new scenes and props, hay rides, fire pits, picture areas and a children’s maze. Admission is $5 for students and $6 for adults.
— The community has been summoned to 5003 U.S. 2 West of Florence, Wis., to view a light show and haunted house. Attendees can drive through the homeowners’ property and tune the radio to 95.9 FM to hear music that syncs with the light show. The free attraction is open from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday through Halloween.
— Kingsford High School Concert Choral has planned a Haunted House fundraiser from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and again from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Iron Mountain Rec Center, 2202 Aragon St., Iron Mountain. Tickets are $3. They will also do face painting for $2 or $3 for a custom design. All proceeds go to benefit KHS Concert Choral members.

— The Niagara Community Trunk of Treat is slated from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Maryhill parking lot. All candy donations can be dropped off at Maryhill. Anyone wishing to participated is asked to call 715-251-3172.
Saturday
— Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson will host its annual Trunk or Treat event from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Everyone is welcome to the fun drive-through event for kids. Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles on their way to receive a Halloween treat. Everyone is directed to enter near the emergency department entrance.
— Area children can also fill their buckets at Bellin Health in Iron Mountain’s Trunk-or-Treat event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. This free community activity offers another safe and exciting way for children to have some Halloween fun and get some candy, too. The outdoor event, which takes place at the clinic at 440 Woodward Ave., features several different stations where children can participate in games and trick-or-treat for candy or other items. Children and families are encouraged to come in Halloween costumes.
— Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority’s first Pumpkin Walk will entertain families from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday in the downtown. The event is sponsored by the First National Bank & Trust. While walking the downtown, children can collect goodies at the Trunk or Treat in front of the downtown stage on Iron Mountain Street, as well as businesses. The DDA will conduct a costume contest from 3 to 4 p.m. at the stage, with all ages welcome. They will award prizes for both children and adults. The Dickinson County Library will feature some fun Halloween-themed activities during the day, including Ghouly Glowing Golfing and a Spooky Story Stroll, with pages of a Halloween story displayed on various storefronts downtown.
— Children ages 12 and younger are invited to the West Iron County District Library in Iron River for a Halloween party from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday. Kids are encouraged to come in costume. There will also be games with prizes and candy, as well as a photo booth.
— The annual Howling Halloween Party for Kids is set from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Breitung Avenue in Kingsford. Children ages 2 to 11, who are accompanied by an adults, are invited to the free party. There will be treat bags, food, and games. Everyone is encouraged to wear their costumes. They will again feature Mischief & Magic balloon animals and face painting. The party is sponsored the Dickinson-Iron Community Services Agency and the RSVP program.
— The Crystal Falls Business Association welcomes children to its annual Candy Bash from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday downtown Crystal Falls. The Friends of the Crystal Falls District Community Library will also pass out more than 200 Halloween books to children of all ages that trick or treat during the event.
— Children are welcome to take part in Calvary Lutheran Church of Quinnesec’s free, family friendly event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Kids are invited to give their Halloween costumes a test run at the Trunk or Treat at the church on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Bluff Street. They will also have games, face painting, snacks and more.
— Loud Acres Farm presents Haunted Corn Maze Field of Screams from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at 178 Fisher Road in Crystal Falls. Admission is $15 per person, cash only. The event features 10 acres of thrills — weather permitting. They will also have food vendors available and fire pits for warming.
Sunday
— The Long Branch Saloon in Faithorn will host a Trunk or Treat event from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in their parking lot. Everyone is welcome to come and decorate their trunks and pass out candy. They will provide hot chocolate, brats, hot dogs, chips and lots of treats to participants.
–The Florence PTO invites area families to its Trunk or Treat from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Elementary School in Florence, Wis. They will feature a haunted hallway, games, temporary tattoos and a photo backdrop. Admission is free and children must be accompanied by an adult.
— Mansfield Township’s annual Halloween party is planned at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Township Hall. Mansfield residents, families and guests are invited. Adults and children are encouraged to dress in their favorite Halloween attire for the costume parade. Kids games and fun for all will be part of the afternoon’s festivities. The Wicked Witch of the West plans to fly in on her broom to hand out treat bags for the youngsters. A sloppy joe lunch will conclude the afternoon and attendees are asked to bring cookies or a treat to share. Everyone is reminded to bring their Jack-o-lantern for the pumpkin contest. — Children can enjoy a Halloween Party from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday on the Circle in Alpha. Participants can begin to set up at noon for the trunk or treat. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated trunk. Food from The Grateful Cheese truck out of Escanaba is available from noon to 4 p.m.
— First Covenant Church, 125 E. H St. in Iron Mountain, also plans a Trunk or Treat event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Families are invited to travel between decorated cars for candy.
— The classic film, “Young Frankenstein,” will be shown at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Braumart Theatre in Iron Mountain. This critical favorite and box-office hit is a comical parody of the classic horror film genre.
Halloween, Monday
— Breitung Township Fire Department will again host an open house during trick or treat hours from 4 to 7 p.m. at the fire station in Quinnesec. They will have kids games, candy, hot dogs, chili, cider, coffee and cocoa. There will also be a station to learn how to use a fire extinguisher and hose, as well as the smokehouse.
— Grace Covenant Church of Iron River will host a Trunk or Treat event from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, in the parking lot of the church at 316 Jasper St. Community families are invited to trick-or-treat around the parking lot among the variety of decorated car and truck trunks that will distribute candy.
— Kids can enjoy a Halloween Trunk or Treat indoors from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Strong Tower Church, 614 Carpenter Ave. in Iron Mountain. They will have candy, food, face painting, temporary tattoos, games and photo booth. The event is free of charge. Everyone is welcome to come enjoy a place to warm up.
–A Halloween party is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the Beechwood Hall, 178 Beechwood Store Road in Iron River. Children, as well as adults, are welcome to come enjoy the free festivities inside the hall. There will be games, candy, snacks and the traditional pinata. The Halloween costume contest will start at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Beechwood Friendly Neighbors and the Beechwood Historical Society.
— The Kids Next Door’s trunk of treat event is slated from 4 to 7 p.m. at the lower school at North Dickinson and Felch Senior Center parking lots. Everyone is invited to come decorate their car and hand out treats. Prizes for the best decorated car and best costume will be awarded.
— A Halloween party will follow treat or treating at 6 p.m. at the Amasa Historical Museum. There will be a costume contest with prizes and candy treats. The event is hosted by the Hematite Fire Department and the Amasa Historical Society.
