Suspect arrested after police chase that begins in Crystal Falls

CRYSTAL FALLS — A driver wanted on an outstanding felony warrant led officers on a chase from Iron County into Dickinson County and was taken into custody Monday without injury, said Iron County Sheriff Ryan Boehmke.

At about 3 p.m. Monday, the Iron County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a reckless driver northbound on U.S. 2 near the intersection of County Road 424. After investigation of video evidence, it was determined that the registered owner of the

vehicle was wanted on a nationwide extraditable warrant for his arrest out of Wisconsin, Boehmke said.

At 5:17 p.m., Iron County deputies located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in the city of Crystal Falls. After they positively identified the driver as the wanted individual, he refused all law enforcement commands and fled at a high rate of speed, the sheriff said.

Assisted by Crystal Falls police, deputies pursued the vehicle into Dickinson County where they were assisted by officers from the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Police Department and Kingsford Public Safety. The pursuit was ended in Dickinson County near the north junction of U.S. 2 and M-95 in Breitung Township.

The driver was transported to the Iron County jail. A complaint has been turned over to the Iron County prosecutor’s office, Boehmke said.

Also assisting were Iron County Central Dispatch, Dickinson County Dispatch and Integrity Care EMS.
