Fatal hit and run in Ishpeming
ISHPEMING — Ishpeming Police said they have located the person who was driving a vehicle reportedly involved in a fatal hit and run in the city Wednesday.
Police say the driver was identified at 6 a.m. Thursday but provided no other information on the ongoing investigation.
The IPD about 7:14 p.m. Wednesday received a report a pedestrian had been struck at 440 Ready St., also known as County Road or BR 28.
According to an IPD news release, police found an injured 31-year-old Marquette man who was pronounced dead at the site.
It was suspected he had been hit by a pickup truck, and authorities worked overnight to locate the vehicle and driver, the news release states.
The name of the pedestrian was not released.
The Ishpeming Police Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police-Negaunee Post, MSP Traffic Reconstruction Unit, Negaunee Police, Ishpeming Fire Department and U.P. Health System EMS.
