Information on in-person voting today in Michigan, Wisconsin

Polling places for the midterm elections will be open today from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central time in Dickinson, Iron and Menominee counties in the Upper Peninsula, as well as Gogebic County to the west.

All four counties border Wisconsin. The rest of the Upper Peninsula and Lower Michigan are on Eastern time.

Polls in Wisconsin will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. as well.

In Michigan, voters will be asked at the polls to present an acceptable photo ID, including:

— Michigan driver’s license or state-issued ID card;

— Driver’s license or personal identification card issued by another state;

— Federal or state government-issued photo identification;

— U.S. passport;

— Military ID with photo;

— Student identification with photo from a high school or accredited institution of higher learning;

— Tribal identification card with photo.

The ID does not need to include the voter’s address. Michigan voters who do not have an acceptable form of ID or failed to bring it with them to the polls still can cast a ballot and will be asked to sign a brief affidavit stating they’re not in possession of a photo ID.

Michigan does allow same-day voter registration, meaning eligible citizens can register and vote up to and on Election Day. Voters may register or update their voter registration in person at their city or township clerk’s office through 8 p.m. today.

Wisconsin, too, requires a photo ID at polling sites, with requirements similar to those in Michigan. For more details, go to https://bringit.wi.gov.

In both states, absentee ballots can be delivered to polling sites by 8 p.m. Election Day.

Starting at $3.50/week.
