Several contested area school board races on Nov. 8 ballot

School board races are contested in most local districts in the Nov. 8 election, including nine Breitung Township Schools candidates seeking four seats.

Breitung incumbents seeking to retain their positions for four-year terms are Joanne A. To, Eric Johnson, Keith A. Hammond and Angela Hall.

The challengers are Anthony T. Grudnoski, Jean Marcell, Rosalie Newlin, Curtis VanDusen and Mark Flood.

Joshua Edwards is the lone Breitung Township Schools candidate for a partial two-year term.

Hammond and Hall were appointed in July after applying for two vacancies on the board. The district received a total of 12 applications for the two positions.

In the North Dickinson County School District, three candidates are vying for a pair of six-year terms. Paul Schuiteman is the only incumbent, joined by Joseph Nurmi and Christopher Roell.

Krystal Fayas, an incumbent, is the lone candidate for a partial one-year term.

Voters in the North Dickinson district will also decide a proposed renewal of 18 mills levied on businesses and non-primary residences. Although the ballot lists an 18.8 mills levy, the district would only levy 18 mills, Superintendent Angel Inglese said.

The district has been collecting 18 mills as the non-homestead operating millage since Proposal A passed in 1993. The renewal, not to exceed 18 mills, would be through 2033.

In the Norway-Vulcan Schools District, four candidates are competing for three seats. Incumbents Brady Gustafson and Jan Van Gasse are joined by Kristen L. Ball and Todd Proctor.

There is no opposition on the ballot for the Iron Mountain Public Schools Board. Lisa Carollo is seeking a six-year term and Shari Picucci-White has filed for a three-year term. Both are incumbents.

There are four candidates for three seats on the West Iron County Schools Board. Incumbents Faye Atanasoff, Julie LaMay and Marla Shamion are challenged by KC Atanasoff.

In the Forest Park School District, there are seven candidates for three seats. Incumbents James L. Nocerini, Angela Stafford and Lisa Koon-Bloomburg face challengers Melissa Moser, Michael Brzoznowski, Allen Jaeger and Troy Margoni.

Starting at $4.00/week.
