Fatal fire investigated in Wausaukee

MARINETTE, Wis. — One person is dead after a structure caught fire Monday night in Wausaukee, Wis.

Marinette County Dispatch received a report about 9:16 p.m. of the fire on Elizabeth Street in the village, according to a news release by Chief Deputy James Hansen of the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office.

County Medical Examiner Kalynn Van Ermen has ordered an autopsy to positively identify the person killed in the blaze.

The sheriff’s office requested the state fire marshal at the Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation assist in investigating the fatal fire’s origin and cause.

Multiple agencies called in for the fire included Wausaukee Fire, Middle Inlet Fire, Wausaukee Rescue, Wisconsin Public Service and the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
