State lists new COVID death in Dickinson County
Dickinson County had one of the five new confirmed deaths in the Upper Peninsula blamed on COVID-19 in the past week, even as virus activity held steady in the area for the seven-day period, state health data showed.
Dickinson County also recorded 15 new confirmed virus positives since March 28, two fewer than the previous week, according to figures posted Tuesday on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website. Iron County had five cases, up one from a week ago.
The MDHHS website Tuesday added 112 confirmed COVID-19 positives since March 28, down 24 from the previous week, to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 34 in Marquette County, 19 in Houghton County, 15 in Dickinson County, 10 in Delta County, nine in Menominee County, seven in Gogebic County, five in Iron and Schoolcraft counties, three in Chippewa County, two in Baraga County, and one in Keweenaw, Ontonagon and Alger counties.
The state recorded two confirmed virus-related deaths in Marquette County and one each in Dickinson, Delta and Schoolcraft counties.
Based on the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 64,766 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 997 confirmed deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 605 confirmed cases and 65 probable, and 15 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 790 confirmed cases and 892 probable, 17 confirmed deaths and eight probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,210 confirmed, 148 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,297 confirmed, 878 probable and nine deaths, 11 probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,421 confirmed cases and 828 probable, 15 deaths and six probable; Mackinac County, 1,950 confirmed cases and 1,075 probable, 34 deaths and six probable; Baraga County, 2,173 confirmed cases, 463 probable and 60 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 3,222 confirmed cases and 431 probable, 85 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,662 confirmed cases and 718 probable, 44 deaths and 34 probable; Chippewa County, 4,264 confirmed cases and 6,077 probable, and 99 deaths, 21 probable; Menominee County, 5,011 confirmed cases, 2,252 probable and 69 deaths, 17 probable; Dickinson County, 6,359 confirmed cases and 3,141 probable, 108 deaths and 25 probable; Houghton County, 8,409 confirmed cases, 1,263 probable, 96 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 9,202 confirmed cases and 3,421 probable, 155 deaths and 42 probable; and Marquette County, 15,191 confirmed cases, 4,532 probable and 149 deaths, 25 probable.
The MDHHS on Tuesday added 5,263 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since March 28, down 1,299 for the week, or an average of about 752 cases per day for the seven-day period, for a total of 3,089,377 cases in the state since COVID tracking began. The state since March 28 recorded 67 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus, 22 fewer than the week before, to reach 42,523.
The state updates COVID-19 data once a week, usually on Tuesdays.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County at 14,695 COVID-19 positives so far, up 20 since March 29, and 149 deaths; Vilas County, 6,548 positives, up 12, and 108 deaths; Forest County, 3,395 positives, up five, and 56 deaths; Iron County, 1,841 positives, up four, and 50 deaths; and Florence County, 1,363 positives, up four, and 17 deaths.
