Floriano-Stecker-Kelly American Legion Post 340 in Hermansville welcomed Joseph Floriano of Iron Mountain, a 41-year military veteran and the great-nephew of Leo Floriano, for the dedication Monday of a refurbished veterans memorial at the Meyer Township Cemetery. Legion auxiliary member Linda Gurgall, with help from other volunteers, donations and fundraisers, led reconstruction of a cement path at the memorial, and refurbished and updated a veterans honor roll monument first placed in 1940. Leo Floriano moved to Hermansville as a child and was killed in 1918 during World War I. He is buried in France. Post 340 was named for him in 1934, his nephew said. The family has four generations who have served in the military, including Joseph Floriano's brother Michael. The post has been in operation for 105 years.
