Man drowns in Marinette County lake
MARINETTE, Wis. — A Kaukauna, Wis., man drowned Saturday afternoon while swimming at Butterfly Lake in the Town of Wausaukee.
John Van Rossum, 47, was in the lake when he called for help and went under, according to a news release from Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller.
Authorities were called to the lake just before 4 p.m., where the first sheriff’s deputy who arrived was able to assist others in pulling the man from the water, Miller stated in the news release.
The deputy immediately began CPR until an ambulance and other rescue crews arrived. Van Rossum was later pronounced dead at Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area in Marinette.
Assisting the sheriff’s office at the lake were Wausaukee Fire Department, Wausaukee Rescue and Aurora Bay Area Medical Center paramedics. The Middle Inlet Fire Department Dive Team had also been called out but was canceled.
