MARQUETTE -- Northern Center for Lifelong Learning in Marquette will present a visit to farms Saturday.

Participants can meet at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time at northeast corner of the Econo Foods lot in Marquette to carpool.

First stop will be Rainbow's End Alpacas in Norway. Participants will start outside to enjoy the alpacas and learn what these animals need in terms of care, and the uses for their fibers. Later there will be time to shop. They have plenty of yarn for home projects as well.

Next, participants go on to see McBroom's Family Dairy (fourth generation) to see a fully automated robotic milking operation for more than 125 cows.

Participants will discuss how the milk is held until the milk truck arrives and will learn about special regulations regarding milk.

Presenters include Mary Lynn Verley (alpacas) and Ed McBroom (dairy).

Cost is $5 for NCLL members, $10 for non-members, plus money for the driver if carpooling.

Starting at /week.
