HOUGHTON — Two former Finlandia University buildings and another parcel will be auctioned off in December.
The Jutila Center and Old Main will be sold to the highest bidder in the auction, which is being conducted by state-appointed receiver O’Keefe and Associates and their real-estate partner, Keen-Summit Capital Partners. A 1-acre lot at the intersection of White and Finn streets is also being sold.
The buildings are two of six Finlandia properties O’Keefe filed motions to abandon earlier this year. The City of Hancock purchased three — Mannerheim, Wargelin and Nikander halls — earlier this month for a combined $30,000.
The Jutila Center was built in 1951, and has 140,150 square feet, according to the auction site. The nine-story building originally served as the Portage hospital. It has operated as the Jutila Center since 2005. The roof was renovated that year, followed by mechanicals four years later.
It houses numerous independent businesses. The Jutila Center had also been home to Finlandia’s International School and Art and Design, as well as other departments and offices.
Dedicated in 1900, the three-story Old Main was the first permanent building for the then-Suomi College. The 8,825-square-foot structure contained most functions of the university, including a dorm, kitchen, offices, classrooms, and chapel. In 1972, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
It has also been upgraded, getting a roof renovation in 2017.
The auction date is Dec. 7, with a bid deadline of Nov. 30.
