QUINNESEC -- Breitung Township Board has a vacancy after accepting the resignation Monday of Trustee Rich Wales, a longtime board member, effective immediately.
Wales did not state a reason for his decision but Supervisor Denny Olson, speaking on behalf of the board, thanked Wales for his many years of service to the township.
The board will consult Township Attorney William Lahey on what needs to be done to proceed in a timely manner to replace Wales.
During his monthly report, Fire Chief Jim Rose advised that due to water system updates being done by the public works department, there will be no fire hydrants available in Quinnesec this week.
Arrangements have been made with Billerud that, in the event of a structure fire, the department will shuttle water from one of the mill's hydrants outside the gates, Rose said. The fire hydrants should be back online by the end of the week, or possibly sooner.
After not taking any action at the last meeting, the board chose U.P. Office Furnishings Inc. to supply new tables and chairs for the board room. The bid was for $26,745.
