Two Kingford High School graduates will perform Monday on New Year's Day with the University of Michigan Marching Band at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif., as well as the Rose Bowl game. Ren Thorne and Josh Benz have made the trip from Ann Arbor with the rest of the band as Michigan takes on Alabama in the College Football Playoff. Thorne is a senior studying business administration. The son of Robert and Barbara Thorne of Norway is the third member of his family to be in the euphonium section. The 2020 KHS graduate is grateful to KHS Band Director Ben Sherk for inspiring him to take leadership roles that suit his unique strengths. The son of Lawrence and Elizabeth Benz is a sophomore trombone player studying mechanical engineering. His favorite band memory is going to the Ohio State game in 2022. Outside of school, the KHS 2022 graduate enjoys skiing and racket sports. (Submitted photos)
