This week's Back to Present photograph, provided by the Menominee Range Historical Foundation Museum, is a 1900 view of the sandstone building on the 200 block of Ludington Street in Iron Mountain.
Built by John R. Wood, first president of the First National Bank, in 1891 out of native red sandstone from the North Side quarry, this building was originally a business block and then the Hotel Wood. It was finally was sold to the City of Iron Mountain for $9,200 in 1900 for use as City Hall. They had also proposed using one of the storefronts for a city library but that never materialized.
The sandstone building today is home to Carlos Cantina Mexican Restaurant, Sol Blu Lounge and Tap Room, Sandstone Studios and Iron Mountain Counseling Center.
