IRON MOUNTAIN -- A city resident sought treatment for hand burns after a house fire early Friday at 700 E. D St., according to the Iron Mountain Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 12:45 a.m. and was confined to the second story of the home, said Jeff Friedenstab, deputy director of fire services, in a news release. A crew that arrived within three minutes of the call found the owner had used an extinguisher to put out most of the fire, he said.
The resident with hand burns was transported to Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson. A second resident complained of minor smoke inhalation and was treated at the site.
In ventilating the home, firefighters also found pockets of fire in the ceiling. The remaining fire was extinguished and the crew removed debris and insulation from the home before leaving the site at 2:18 a.m., he said.
There was smoke odor throughout the house but the fire damage was limited to the room of its origin, Friedenstab said. The homeowner had working smoke alarms and fire extinguishers, which helped with the outcome, he added.
