IRON MOUNTAIN -- A fire caused by a malfunctioning light fixture in a storage area at Dickinson County Library was doused Thursday with a hand-held extinguisher, officials said.
Iron Mountain Fire Department was called at 11:48 a.m. and no one was harmed as patrons exited.
A plastic cover on the overheated fixture apparently dripped into a box of books, starting a small fire that library staff was able to knock down with an extinguisher, said Jeff Friedenstab, Iron Mountain deputy director of fire services. The fire crew also used an extinguisher and there was no structural damage, he said.
The library, on its Facebook page, thanked firefighters and Iron Mountain Police Department for their quick action.
"The library is open, we do have a smoke smell but have doors open to get fresh air into the building," library staff said Thursday afternoon in a Facebook update.
