Wisconsin fisheries meeting Jan. 29 at Wild Rivers center in Florence

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will host a series of informational meetings across the northeast region to educate anglers on fisheries management topics.

The sessions will be held in person and via Zoom from 6 to 8 p.m. over the next few months, giving the public a chance to meet and learn from their local DNR fishery resource specialists.

Inland trout and lake management in Florence and Forest counties will be discussed by DNR fisheries biologist Greg Matzke on Monday, Jan. 29, at the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center in Florence.

This is free fishing weekend in Wisconsin, coinciding with the Pete “Toad” Church Ice Fishing Derby conducted by Homestead-Aurora Conservation Club. Anglers will be registering catches until 7 p.m. today at C & R Bar in Aurora, Wis.

Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club will host the 50th annual Tip-Up Town of the U.P. on Saturday, Feb. 3. The ice fishing contest is on Sawyer Lake, 4 miles north of Channing. Find out more at https://stsportsmen.com/tip-up-town.htm.
