By Daily News staff 1 min read

Voters Tuesday approved a request for a new millage levy to support technical education in the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District with 58% support.

The preliminary tally was 4,775 yes to 3,478 no in Dickinson and Iron counties and Menominee County's Faithorn Township.

The 10-year levy is 0.5206 mills, or 52 cents per $1,000 of taxable value, to upgrade the ISD's Career and Technical Education Center in Kingsford.

"We are very thankful and excited about the passage of the millage," said Jennifer Huotari, ISD superintendent. "The infrastructure improvements that we will be able to make at the Tech Center will positively impact future CTE (career and technical education) students for many years to come."

According to the ISD, improvements to be funded include replacement of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system; refurbishment of bathrooms and plumbing; energy efficiency measures; enhanced building entry for safety; installation of a fire suppression system; better space utilization; and parking and grounds upgrades.

The measure was approved in Iron County, 1,800 yes to 1,017 no. In Dickinson County, the result was 2,934 yes to 2,422 no. The Faithorn tally was 41 yes to 39 no.
