More warmth in forecast

IRON MOUNTAIN — More warm weather is predicted this week, though it appears temperatures may remain slightly below record highs at Iron Mountain-Kingsford.

In 1991, record highs of 56 degrees were set on three consecutive days, from Feb. 3 through Feb. 5, according to observations at the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Sunday’s unofficial high (Feb. 4) was 51 degrees.

The forecast calls for highs mainly in the upper 40s through Friday before dropping into the upper 30s Saturday. There is a chance of rain Thursday night and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The lowest record high for the week ahead is 49 degrees on Feb. 7, set in 2002. The predicted high that day — Thursday — is 48 degrees.

The highest February temperature on record is 62 degrees on Feb. 19, 1930.

Colder weather is expected next week, with highs generally in the 20s.
