IRON MOUNTAIN — The popular One Big Day For Healthy Kids returns Saturday in Iron Mountain.

The annual family event, sponsored by BOSS Snowplow, Imagination Factory Children’s Museum and Northern Lights YMCA, is planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Izzo-Mariucci Center, 217 Izzo-Mariucci Way in downtown Iron Mountain.

Barb Reisner, Imagination Factory Children’s Museum executive director team leader and event coordinator, noted the change in location, as construction is taking place on the gym floor in the Central School building.

The free day features 28 community leaders — positioned at booths throughout the facility — and focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles.

Free bike helmets, along with backpacks, are again provided by BOSS Snowplow.

“We do have more helmets this year,” Reisner said.

The Imagination Factory Children’s Museum will be open with free admission throughout the event. Attendees are asked to enter through the 217 Hughitt St. entrance.

Kids can enjoy the 50 exhibits and play stations in the upstairs museum.

Free children’s books will be distributed at the museum as well, Reisner said.

Everyone is invited to get photos taken in the Imagination Factory photo booth.

A free lunch will be provided to each child, plus healthy snacks will be available.

Food vendors on site include the Curious Pig, Henry Mann’s Shaved Ice, and Kim Webb and Phil Zollner providing hamburgers and hot dogs.

“The food vendors will be donating profits to the Imagination Factory,” Reisner said.

Participants can also tour the fire trucks and ambulance that will be parked in the high school student lot.

Kids can get information on the upcoming Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

“This great event gets better and grows every year,” Reisner said.

More than 600 children participated in 2023, with a total of more than 1,200 in attendance.

They have 75 volunteers who assist in making the event a success each year, Reisner added.

“There’s nothing more important than raising a healthy family,” she said. “This day provides the opportunity for our community to learn how we can make better choices for our family.”
