Mobile food pantry set for Wednesday in Quinnesec

QUINNESEC — Feeding America West Michigan is bringing a drive-thru mobile food pantry to the Tri-City Cinemas 8, W7700 U.S. 2 in Quinnesec on Wednesday.

The distribution starts at 10 a.m., with registration starting at 9 a.m. All traffic should use the U.S. 2 entrance. The Baler Road entrance will be closed.

Mobile food pantries provide free supplemental food to households experiencing food insecurity. A household is considered eligible if it participates in any of a number of government food programs (WIC, SNAP, free school lunch, SSI, etc.), meets federal low income guidelines, or is simply in need of emergency food.

No ID or proof of eligibility is required, although a volunteer will ask a few basic questions about the customer’s address, household, and eligibility at the time of registration. One vehicle may pick up food for up to three households.

FAWM requires a signed note with the same basic information for each additional household.

The organizers also suggest that customers have in their vehicles boxes, laundry baskets or totes for volunteers to place the food.

The mobile food pantry schedule for 2024 is the second Wednesday of every month.

Wednesday’s distribution will be the last distribution held at Tri-City Cinemas prior to the summer months. A site for June, July and August will be announced shortly.

In September, the Mobile Food Pantry returns to Tri-City Cinemas.

The distributions at Tri-City Cinemas are coordinated by FAWM agency partner Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Iron Mountain.

Questions about the Mobile Food Pantry should be directed to Anda Tavonatti at 906-239-6778, not to Tri-City Cinemas.
