FLORENCE, Wis. — Attorney Michael J. Scholke has announced his bid to succeed retiring Florence County District Attorney Douglas Drexler in the Nov. 5 election.

“I would first like to thank Mr. Drexler for his long-term service to Florence County. He has been a dedicated public servant for over 30 years. I aim to continue the fairness, decency, and common sense that Mr. Drexler has brought to the office,” Scholke said.

The vast majority of these files, were criminal matters ranging from OWIs to first-degree homicide.

Scholke has an extensive understanding of the criminal justice system and is known for dealing fairly, honestly and justly with clients, other attorneys, law enforcement and the courts. He looks forward to using this expertise to now advocate for the public safety of Florence County while ensuring that due process is afforded to all.

Along with his work obligations, Scholke is active in the community. He participates in local events and fundraisers and gives back by coaching youth soccer and basketball.

Scholke moved to Florence in May 2023. He has practiced in Florence County for well over a decade. He has handled hundreds of cases in Florence County and has an exemplary relationship with court officials and law enforcement.

Scholke said he chose to run in Florence because it is a close-knit community full of good, hardworking people.

“I plan to continue my work in the community and to maintain my good working relationship with our outstanding law enforcement officers,” he said. “It would be my distinct privilege and honor to represent the state of Wisconsin and my new friends and neighbors as the next district attorney for Florence County.”
