NORWAY — The City of Norway has a substantial water main break on the transmission water main.

Authorities are asking residents to please conserve water until further notice. Refrain from doing things like laundry, dishes, watering, and any other unnecessary use of water until further notice.

At this time, the water is OK to drink, however, a boil water notice may have to be issued if the water holding tank gets too low.

Norway Schools are closing for the day. Without water, there are no toilets, sinks or drinking fountains, and school cannot be in session without water to the building, Superintendent Lou Steigerwald said.

Holy Spirit Catholic School in Norway is also closed.

The bus company has been called and drivers are going to arrive to begin picking up students as soon as possible.

Parents may pick up children at their convenience.

Check back for updates to this story throughout the day.

Around 2:45 p.m., authorities said they were able to repair the water main before exhausting the holding tank. No water boil advisory was necessary.
