Brown pleads no contest in strangulation case

IRON MOUNTAIN — A Norway man accused of attempting to strangle a former member of his household has pleaded no contest to an assault charge in Dickinson County Circuit Court

In accepting the plea deal on assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation, 37-year-old William Anthony Brown saw two counts of domestic violence dismissed Monday and Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kristin Kass agreed not to pursue further charges, including as a habitual offender. She also said she would not object to a Dickinson County Jail sentence.

According to the criminal complaint, police responding to a domestic assault report March 17 found the victim covered in blood, who said Brown had thrown her down, struck her repeatedly and choked her until nearly unconscious. The victim had to be hospitalized with multiple injuries.

Brown remains in custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond. Sentencing has been set for 9 a.m. Aug. 7.

Starting at $2.99/week.
