Florence Board OKs changes to ATV/UTV route usage

FLORENCE Wis. — Florence County has revised its ATV/UTV ordinance, removing one route and adding several others.

Removed this week by the county board was a 3 1/2-mile segment from Meadowood Hills Drive to State Highway 101. Added were all of County Road D, County Road N to State Highway 101 and a 1,500-foot segment from the railroad grade north to U.S. 2.

In Wisconsin, ATV/UTV routes may not include county or state highways unless authorized by the county highway department or the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

In other business Tuesday, the board:

— Welcomed Karen Thompson as the recently appointed supervisor for District 3, which covers parts of Aurora and Commonwealth.

— Renewed its annual contract for maintenance and grooming of the ATV/snowmobile trails with the Florence County Blue Ox Trail Riders, with no changes from previous years. Blue Ox Trail Riders is a non-profit, volunteer organization that has performed the work since the club was formed in 2010. The club will be reimbursed at rates set by the State Recreation Council and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

— Accepted a memorandum of understanding in regards to an opioid lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies and pharmaceutical retailers. Florence County’s allocation percentage of the lawsuit would be 0.053% under the Wisconsin local government agreement. The board also authorized entering into a settlement agreement with Kroger Company in conjunction with those terms.

— Approved creation of a depository fund to receive zoning citation forfeitures.

Starting at $3.50/week.
