KINGSFORD — About $37,500 in donations have come in to support a track replacement and artificial turf project at Flivver Field.

The estimated $2.1 million project approved by Breitung Township Schools on June 17 has a fundraising goal of $150,000.

The project has received a $200,000 donation from the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Schools, a $150,000 donation from the Kingsford High School Athletic Booster Club and the remaining funds will come from the Zanardi Family Trust.

Larger donations will be for sidelines and goal posts, but an ad hoc committee will decide how donors will be honored, Superintendent David Holmes said at a school board meeting Monday. They will also do something to honor the Zanardi family.

The board committed to replacing the original track, which includes basework, resurfacing, and painting. An ad hoc committee was formed and decided to add an artificial turf field since the base work for the track surface was already being planned.

The project is slated to begin after the 2025 Upper Peninsula Track and Field Finals with completion in time for the fall sports seasons.

In other business, the board:

— Learned the second half of the $100,000 gift from Kathy and Jerry Novickis of the Temple-Novickis Family Foundation for the choir room has been received. The school plans to have an open house to honor them in the fall.

— Accepted letters of resignation from Cory Rice, an educational assistant, and Kristen Burrell, an elementary teacher.

— Heard that the annual Flivverfest fundraiser event is planned July 26-27 at Lodal Park. Holmes said it is a good fundraiser for Kingsford athletics.
