Survey seeks public input on next top official for ND school
FELCH TOWNSHIP — North Dickinson County School District residents, staff and students can now weigh in through a survey on what they want to see from their next superintendent/principal.
The district launched a search through the Michigan Association of School Boards for a new superintendent/principal after Angel Inglese resigned effective June 30 to become director of general education for the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District. Inglese, who had the position for more than 12 years, did agree to stay on through July to help while the district works on her successor.
Toward that, the MASB set up a online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ndcsearch “to share your perspective regarding the qualities, experiences and skills that you would like to see in the district’s next superintendent/principal,” officials state in the district’s August-September Nordic Newsletter.
If preferred, the public Friday morning can speak in person with Mary Brayak, the MASB’s representative in the search, in the middle school/high school library at the facility, W6588 M-69 in Felch Township. Brayak plans to meet with staff from 10 to 11 a.m., then community members immediately afterwards until noon.
A special school board meeting also has been set for July 29 to appoint Brayak, of Bark River, as interim superintendent while the MASB search process plays out. North Dickinson County’s 2024-25 school year starts Aug. 19.
The job has been posted, Inglese said, but all applications must be submitted through MASB, not to the school. The MASB has a link to the application on its website, https://www.masb.org.
It was unclear how long the search might take for a new superintendent/principal. The small rural district in 2023-24 had roughly 260 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, according to online sources.
The district has filled one other administrative need: Natalie Rossi started Monday as business manager. She replaces Garrett O’Neil, who left June 28 after only a year as business manager/technology director. He had succeeded Mike Roell, who retired at the end of June 2023.
Rossi, 40, is a North Dickinson Class of 2001 graduate who now has a daughter in 10th grade and son in seventh grade at the school. Her family lives just across M-69 from the building where she now works, Rossi said.
“I just thought it would be a great opportunity to be close to home,” the former Norway city treasurer said, adding, “I’m really excited to be a part of the scchool district and I think it’s going to be great.”
