MARQUETTE — A 63-year-old woman from California died Friday while in Lake Superior at McCarty’s Cove in Marquette, authorities said.

Marquette city lifeguards pulled the woman from shallow water about 12:20 p.m. Friday and initiated CPR, according to Marquette Police.

Marquette Fire Department and UPHS-Marquette EMS personnel continued resuscitation efforts on arrival without success.

The woman’s name was not released and no further information has been made available.

Michigan State Police also assisted at the site.
