IC museum to have Tastings, Tapas & Tours event

CASPIAN — The Iron County Historical & Museum Society will present its Tastings, Tapas & Tours fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the museum, 100 Brady Ave. in Caspian.

The annual event will feature a tasting flight of five wines from Scout & Cellar, custom paired with a brunch-inspired menu from Main Street Cafe.

Attendees are welcome to enjoy all-you-can-eat appetizers and beverages in the courtyard.

The museum will be open for tours and volunteers will be available to escort visitors through the buildings and grounds and provide knowledge about new exhibits.

“Catch up with friends and neighbors as you meander through different parts of the museum, including Toti’s Tavern,” said Iron County Historical & Museum Society Museum Director Kathlene “KL” Long.

Ticket holders will also have access to exclusive silent auction items.

The museum is still seeking sponsors for the 2024 Tastings, Tapas & Tours.

They are offering increased recognition in sponsorship levels. They include:

— Beach Glass, $100;

— Yooperlite, $250;

Tickets for the fundraiser are $50 per person or $90 per couple. They can be purchased by phone at 906-265-2617, online at https://ironcountymuseum.org or checks and a list of attendees names can be mailed to ICHMS, P.O. Box 272, Caspian, MI 49915.

Tickets will be waiting at time of check-in.

This event is designed for adults; however, minors are not precluded from attending. Tickets for minors are the same price as for adults.

All proceeds go to support the museum.

The museum’s largest fundraiser of the year, the Christmas Tree Galleria 2024, takes place from Nov. 29 to Dec. 15.

This year’s theme is “Dreamin’ of a White Christmas.”

The annual holiday celebration features more than 40 decorated trees, gift basket raffle with more than 50 baskets and special programs including Family Night, Business After Hours, Santa Lucia Celebration and more.

Galleria and raffle tickets will go on sale Nov. 1. Anyone interested can purchase tickets at the museum, call or go online.

The Christmas Tree Galleria helps cover the cost of utilities through the colder months.

The Iron County Historical Museum opened in 1968 on the grounds of the former Caspian Mine that closed in 1937.

The tall headframe, which can be seen from anywhere on the grounds, stands over a flooded mine shaft that is 539 feet deep.

The museum features 27 buildings with more than 100 exhibits, an extensive research center and archives, and two art galleries.

The society’s mission is “to preserve the past, inspire lifelong learning, and encourage cultural engagement.”

Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday through August. They are closed Sundays and holidays.
