Missing Powers man found dead

MENOMINEE — The search for an overdue motorcyclist from Powers ended Monday after Menominee County authorities received a 911 call informing them of a crash site where the man’s body was later found.

The missing man, Steven Stauch, 58, was last seen leaving a Faithorn-area business on Saturday, Menominee County Sheriff Mike Holmes said in a news release.

The sheriff’s office was notified of the missing person at 7:33 a.m. Monday and initiated a search, utilizing location data from the individual’s cell phone to identify multiple areas of interest, Holmes said. During the search, Menominee County 911 was alerted to a crash site along County Road 577 in Holmes Township.

Deputies responded and located the motorcycle and deceased operator in a wooded area adjacent to the roadway.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by accident investigators from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post, special deputies from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office Property Inspection Unit and the Victim Services Unit.

Anyone with information related to the traffic fatality is encouraged to contact the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office at 906-863-4441. Holmes said information may also be reported anonymously via the Crime Stoppers of Marinette and Menominee County Facebook page or through the Crime Stoppers mobile tip app.
