Three Dickinson board members defeated, library millage approved
IRON MOUNTAIN — Three incumbent Dickinson County commissioners — Ann Martin, Barbara Kramer and Board Chairman Henry Wender — were defeated by Republican primary challengers in Tuesday’s election, while incumbent Republican Joe Stevens of Kingsford prevailed in his race against challenger Angela Olson.
In District 2, Martin was defeated by Kevin Sullivan, 266 to 153. Kramer lost in District 3 to Dan Harrington, 373 to 330. Wender was defeated by Peter Swanson in District 4, 588 to 477.
In November, Sullivan will square off against Democrat William Revord while Harrington will be opposed by Democrat Sandi Lefebvre.
Stevens won his District 1 race against Olson, 314 to 232. There were no Democratic candidates in District 1.
In District 5, incumbent Democrat John Degenaer Jr. will be challenged in November by Republican Victoria Jakel.
All millage proposals were approved in Dickinson County, including a five-year 0.9-mill levy for Dickinson County Library. The vote was 2,796 yes to 2,325 no.
A proposal to increase Iron Mountain City Council pay to $30 per meeting was narrowly defeated, 565 no to 543 yes.
