Notice issued for political signs
Peshtigo, Wis. — The Marinette County Highway Department and Wisconsin Department of Transportation have received numerous complaints in regards to political signs placed in the state and county highway right-of-ways.
While it is legal to post signs on private property, it is not legal to place them within the right-of-way of state and county highways, per Wisconsin Statute Chapter 86.19 and the Marinette County Code of Ordinance Chapter 7.02 and chapter 22.05
The highway department is asking the public’s cooperation in immediately removing signs placed within the right-of-way of a state or county trunk highway.
The highway department will place removal order stickers on signs in the right-of-way beginning Wednesday with a removal date of Monday, Sept. 30.
