IRON MOUNTAIN — With Halloween just around the corner, the Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority is getting ready to bring the holiday fun to the downtown.
The third-annual Pumpkin Walk and Trunk and Treat is planned from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Systems Control stage and parking lot on Iron Mountain Street, across from the Dickinson County Library.
Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson and First National Bank & Trust will once again be co-presenting sponsors.
“We are getting ready for another spooktacular event in the downtown,” said DDA Event Coordinator Katherine Mentel, adding the community event is made possible by the generous support of the two sponsors.
In addition to the trunk-or-treating at each station, youngsters can take part in a costume contest at 1 p.m. at the stage. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place.

Mentel noted they will position all the activity-based trunks at the end for the kids to enjoy.
“We are working on a fun Halloween photo booth, which is new this year,” Mentel said. “We also hope to have volunteers walking around in costume.”
The DDA will conduct voting as well for the best decorated trunk display during the Pumpkin Walk.
Local businesses, organizations or schools can sign up online through Sunday, Oct. 20, to be part of the trunk and treat event.
The Dickinson County Library is bringing back the Ghoulie Glowing Golfing for kids of all ages. Those wishing to skip the line can call the library at 906-774-1218 for a tee time starting Saturday, Oct. 19. Walk-ins are welcome as well on the day of the event.

The library will also have Halloween-themed crafts for kids to enjoy.
Downtown businesses are also encouraged to take part in the Halloween window decorating contest. Entry sign up will open through Thursday. The public will vote for their best decorated window from Friday through Oct. 30.
The top two places for the trunk and window contest will be announced on Halloween.
“Thanks to the partnership, we are providing DDA mini-grants to the first- and second-place winners for each contest,” Mentel said.
Last year, the Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson and First National Bank & Trust joined forces to expand the event. The hospital previously hosted its own trunk-or-treat event in the medical facility parking lot that became a longstanding community tradition.
Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson Director of Public Relations and Business Development Joe Rizzo explained when they learned about the Pumpkin Walk, they approached the DDA about making it one big event.
The DDA calculated about 2,000 community members, along with 30 trunk participants, came out for the 2023 event.
Rizzo added that Marshfield is excited and honored to again partner with the DDA and First National Bank & Trust for the event.
“Pumpkin Walk 2023 was a great success, and we look forward to another great event this year,” said Mandy Shelast, president of Marshfield Michigan Region. “Enjoying Halloween with our community members and distributing sweet treats to our local children is wonderfully rewarding.”
In 2022, First National Bank and the DDA collaborated on the Pumpkin Walk to bring a Halloween event to the downtown that could involve the businesses. The event also serves as a companion to the annual Downtown Christmas Walk and Community Christmas Tree Lighting.
“We’re excited to partner once again with such a community-centered organization like Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson for this fun family event,” said Russ Kassin, First National president and CEO.
Employees are excited to show off this year’s creative costumes. “We are going to be piggy banks — it’s going to be fun,” FNB Senior Branch Manager Tammie Loker said.
“Last year’s event was a tremendous success, drawing a large turnout and receiving wonderful feedback from families and participants,” Kassin added. “We look forward to building on that success this year and into the future.”
Mentel invites everyone to participate in the trunk or treat event or volunteering. For more information on the event or to sign up, go to downtownironmountain.com/pumpkin-walk.
“The Pumpkin Walk is a safe, secure and fun way to enjoy Halloween festivities with your family,” she said.
