Bohnak flips House district

KARL BOHNAK

Former TV meteorologist Karl Bohnak will represent Michigan’s 109th House District in Lansing after unseating incumbent Rep. Jenn Hill, D-Marquette, in Tuesday’s election.

Bohnak, a Republican, received 51.3% of the vote to 48.7% for Hill, a victory margin of 1,342 votes in a district that includes Marquette, Alger and Baraga counties and the eastern two-thirds of Dickinson County. With nearly all of the votes counted Wednesday, the totals were 26,189 votes for Bohnak and 24,847 for Hill.

In Dickinson County, Bohnak prevailed 2,693 to 1,193. That total came from the city of Norway, along with Breen, Felch, Norway, Waucedah and West Branch townships.

Hill, who had served one term, lost the race despite carrying Marquette County by 2,673 votes. This marks the first time Marquette County will be represented by a Republican in the state House since 1955.

Starting at $3.50/week.
