Election day arrives
Lots on ballot in both Michigan, Wisconsin
Voters in Michigan and Wisconsin who have not already voted will go to the polls today for an election that has a wide range of candidates and questions on the ballot.
Poll sites will be open in both Michigan and Wisconsin from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Anyone who is in line before 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
The weather forecast is less than ideal for the region – rain, with a high of only 50 predicted.
Both crucial swing states will choose a president and U.S. senator, plus U.S. representatives for their region.
Michigan also has state House seats being contested — for Dickinson County, the 110th and 109th districts, while Iron County has only the 110th. This election cycle has no state Senate seats on the ballot.
Two Michigan Supreme Court seats are up for election this year, one full eight-year term and one partial term after a justice was appointed in 2022.
Locally, candidates are vying for Dickinson and Iron county boards, county offices, township boards and school boards.
Norway-Vulcan Area Schools has a bond proposal as well, and Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District a special education millage renewal that will be voted on in both counties.
In Iron County, there are proposed millage renewals for the Crystal Falls District Community Library and for roads.

In Wisconsin, Florence and Marinette counties will choose county officials such as clerk and district attorney, but those positions are uncontested in both counties.
Also on the ballot in both counties are a state senator and state assembly positions.
The four Wisconsin school districts in the region — The School District of Niagara, the Florence County School District, the Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine School District and the Goodman-Armstrong Creek School District — all are seeking voter approval for operational millages.
Finally, Wisconsin has a statewide referendum authored by Republican legislators asking for permission to amend the state constitution to clearly prohibit non-U.S. citizens from voting in any election in the state. No Wisconsin municipalities now allow noncitizens to vote.
