GOODMAN, Wis. — In this season of thanksgiving, the Goodman Public Library stands as a testament to the power of community and gratitude.

Nestled in the small town of Goodman, where towering pines line quiet streets and neighbors greet each other by name, this hidden gem quietly serves as a lifeline to the world of books, knowledge and imagination.

A library with heart

Despite its modest size and schedule, Goodman Public Library offers a wealth of resources to its community. Residents can access books, movies and materials from across Wisconsin thanks to its robust interlibrary loan program.

With just one part-time librarian, the library is a testament to how much can be accomplished with dedication and creativity.

“Even though we’re small, our patrons are incredibly loyal and grateful for the service,” librarian Rebecca Livick said. “Every Thursday afternoon, they show up with smiles, ready to dive into a new book or pick up something they’ve requested. It’s truly heartwarming.”

Meeting unique needs

Goodman Public Library serves as a bridge for those in a rural area, ensuring that residents have access to the same opportunities as larger communities. While many of its patrons visit weekly to pick up their reserved materials, others simply stop by to chat or catch up on local happenings.

“There’s something wonderful about how a small library brings people together,” one patron said. “It’s not just about the books; it’s about being part of something that feels like home.”

Small space, big dreams

The library occupies a small space within the Goodman-Armstrong Creek school library, marked by a simple exterior door that proudly declares “Public Library.”

Inside, the collection may be modest, but the impact is anything but. It is part of the Marinette County Consolidated Public Library Service, so patrons can borrow from across the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium, proving that even the smallest libraries can have a far-reaching influence.

Celebrating community and gratitude

In an age where digital content reigns supreme, Goodman Public Library is a reminder of the enduring value of local institutions. Its presence speaks volumes about the resilience and resourcefulness of small-town America.

“As we reflect on the many things we’re thankful for this season, our library and its wonderful patrons are at the top of the list,” Livick said. “It might not be big, but it’s a vital part of life here in Goodman. We’re so grateful to be able to offer this service.”
