Man dies after snowmobile crash in EK
BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — A man has died after a snowmobile crash Tuesday evening in East Kingsford that also left his child passenger injured, according to the Michigan State Police.
The accident happened about 5:30 p.m. near Knight and South Park avenues when the snowmobile struck a tree, ejecting the 43-year-old driver and his 9-year-old passenger, the MSP Iron Mountain Post reported in a news release.
The driver was taken to Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson and then transferred to a hospital in Green Bay, where he later died. The passenger had minor injuries.
No names have been released.
Neither the driver nor passenger was wearing a helmet. Speed and loss of control appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, MSP stated in the news release.
Michigan State Police were assisted by the Iron Mountain Police Department, Kingsford Public Safety Department, Breitung Township Fire and Integrity Ambulance.
